According to NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi, QB Tarvaris Jackson agreed to restructure his contract to complete a trade to Buffalo. In return, the Seahawks will receive an undisclosed draft pick from Buffalo.

The deal reportedly has been in the works since Sunday but was being held up because of the money Jackson was owed this season, the final year of a two-year deal he signed with Seattle before 2011.

Jackson, who started 14 games for Seattle last season and threw 14 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, was scheduled to make $4 million this season. However, he now can make up to $3 million if he hits certain incentives.

The Seahawks signed Matt Flynn in free agency and drafted Russell Wilson in the third round to compete for the starting job, which Wilson has won.

The Bills signed Vince Young in the offseason to compete with Tyler Thigpen to be Ryan Fitzpatrick’s backup quarterback. However, in Saturday’s preseason game against the Steelers, Young completed only 12-of-26 passes and threw two interceptions. That poor performance led the Bills to make the trade for Jackson and release Young.

The way we see it

By making this trade, the Bills and Chan Gailey are showing they clearly are not satisfied with the play of Young and Thigpen, and getting a dependable backup for Fitzpatrick was a priority this offseason. Jackson has plenty of experience and his mobility fits what Gailey looks for in Buffalo’s offense. It could be a very intriguing final preseason game for Buffalo as it aims to name a No. 2 quarterback.

It's unlikely the Bills will part ways with Brad Smith, who is the No. 3 quarterback to be used in "Wildcat" situations. Smith has value as a special-teamer as well. With Fitzpatrick's struggles last season, the backup quarterback is an important position for Buffalo.
