Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told the media Monday that first-round rookie ORG David DeCastro's injured right knee will be surgically repaired on Wednesday.
DeCastro, who had ascended to a starting spot after being the team's first-round selection in April's draft, was injured in first quarter of the team's third preseason game against the Bills last Saturday night. He reportedly suffered ligament damage.
The team has until Friday to decide whether or not to place DeCastro on season-ending injured reserve. According to Tomlin, the team will see how the surgery goes before making a decision.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Mark Kaboly tweeted Monday that the Steelers will not place DeCastro on injured reserve.
