Cowboys NT Jay Ratliff suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday’s preseason game, the team’s website confirmed. Ratliff got hurt on a play in the second quarter.
Ratliff didn’t play in Dallas’ first two preseason games because of a foot injury. This injury puts his status in jeopardy for the team’s regular-season opener against the Giants on Sept. 5.
Last season, Ratliff started every game and made 38 tackles, two sacks and three passes defensed. He has not missed a start since 2007 and he has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last four seasons. Third-year DL Josh Brent is Ratliff’s backup.
