The Rams signed free-agent DE Vernon Gholston, a former No. 6 overall draft pick by the Jets, on Wednesday.
Gholston, 26, was a major bust with the Jets, lasting only three seasons in New York and failing to tally a single sack in 45 regular-season games. He played for the Bears in the 2011 preseason before being cut. He did not play in the league last season.
Gholston, a 6-3, 262-pound Ohio State product, was one of two defensive ends that worked out for the Rams on Wednesday. The other was ex-Patriot Andre Carter, who is still not 100 percent healthy after suffering a season-ending torn quadriceps muscle on Dec. 18.
The Rams had a roster spot to fill after trading CB Josh Gordy to the Colts on Tuesday.
