Dolphins OG Eric Steinbach will announce his retirement Wednesday, head coach Joe Philbin said.

Steinbach did not play in 2011 after undergoing back surgery. The 32-year-old played in 125 games with 124 starts in his eight NFL seasons — four with the Bengals and four with the Browns.

The Dolphins signed Steinbach late this offseason to challenge at the right guard spot. On HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” Steinbach revealed his difficulties getting back to game-ready shape physically. Philbin told Steinbach on the show that he would sit the Dolphins’ third preseason game and try to get ready for the preseason finale.
