Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said Sunday that he's not yet ready to name his team's starting quarterback for Week One.

Prior to training camp, Philbin, the team's first-year head coach, said he wanted to announce his starting quarterback for Week One by the third week of the preseason. However, after two preseason losses, Philbin has decided to let the competition continue a bit longer.

With veteran David Garrard still sidelined after knee surgery, the battle for the starting job is between first-round rookie Ryan Tannehill and veteran Matt Moore, who ended last season as the starter.

Those two QBs are expected to split the snaps in the Dolphins' third preseason game against the Falcons at home Friday night.

Tannehill started against the Panthers this past Friday and played the entire first half, completing just 11-of-23 passes for 100 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 23-17 loss. He directed one scoring drive that resulted in a touchdown. Moore connected on 5-of-15 passes for 57 yards and directed one scoring drive that led to a field goal.

Against the Buccaneers in the first preseason game, Moore started and was 7-of-12 passing for 79 yards and one interception. Tannehill completed 14-of-21 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown in the 20-7 loss to Tampa Bay.

"It could be [this week]," Philbin said at Sunday's press conference about naming a starting QB for the season. "We’re in a process right now. We watched the game, obviously. We discussed the game, obviously. And now we’re starting to formulate some thoughts on Atlanta. We’re certainly going to do more game-planning this week than we did the first two, there’s no question about that."
