Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the team's website that he isn't counting on WR Miles Austin to return to the field anytime soon. This would be the second consecutive preseason missed by Austin because of hamstring injuries.
Following the Cowboys' 28-20 preseason loss at San Diego Saturday evening, Jones said he didn't see Austin returning in time for the team's third preseason game against the Rams. And since most teams sit their starters in the fourth and final preseason, it's likely that Austin won't be active until the Sept. 5 season opener at the Giants.
“He’s not one of the ones I’m thinking will be back,” Jones said when asked about Austin, according to the team's website. “I wouldn’t discount it, but he’s not one of the ones that I have coming back."
Austin missed six games in 2011 because of hamstring issues. He suffered a hamstring strain early in training camp this year and has been sidelined ever since.
