RB Brandon Jacobs’ first season in a Niners uniform might have come to an abrupt halt Saturday night after being carried off the field with a potentially significant left knee injury suffered in the preseason game against the Texans.
Jacobs’ injury occurred at the end of an eight-yard run that was culminated by a collision with Texans CB Kareem Jackson, who was also shaken up on the play.
The Niners signed Jacobs, who turned 30 in July, at the end of March. One of the NFL’s largest tailbacks, the 6-4, 264-pound ex-Giant was being envisioned as a short-yardage back who could also ease the workload and provide experienced insurance for featured back Frank Gore. The Giants released Jacobs, who has 17 TDs over the past two years, on March 9.
