Lions RB Jahvid Best will likely begin the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Best played in only six games last season because of concussions, and he has yet to be cleared for contact. If he begins the season on the PUP list, Best will miss at least the first six games of 2012.
In those six games last season, Best had 390 yards rushing, 287 yards receiving and three total touchdowns. As a rookie, he appeared in all 16 games and had 555 yards rushing, 487 yards receiving and six scores.
RB Mikel Leshoure, who missed all of his rookie season with a torn Achilles tendon, returned to practice on Wednesday. Leshoure is suspended for the first two games of the regular season after being cited twice this offseason for marijuana possession.
