The Steelers announced Monday that they have signed veteran free-agent TE Justin Peelle to a one-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Peelle, a 10-year NFL veteran, spent the 2011 season with the 49ers. Prior to that was with the Falcons (2008-10), Dolphins (2006-07) and Chargers (2002-05).
The 6-4, 251-pound Peelle is known as being a solid blocker. His career highs for catches and yards came in 2007 with the Dolphins, when he caught 29 passes for 228 yards.
To make room on the roster, the Steelers placed FB-TE David Johnson on the Waived/Injured List. Johnson suffered a torn ACL in Pittsburgh's first preseason game against the Eagles on Aug. 9.
