49ers OLB Aldon Smith left the team's preseason opener on Friday with a right hip bruise, but head coach Jim Harbaugh said he expects Smith to recover in time for the regular season.

"He'll be out for some time," Harbaugh said Sunday, per CSN Bay Area. "Maybe a week or so."

Smith might not play again in the preseason, though.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports Smith will not play in the 49ers' preseason game Saturday vs. the Texans, and he also might miss San Francisco's Aug. 26 game vs. the Broncos. The 49ers will play their final preseason game Aug. 30 vs. the Chargers, and Harbaugh might not play any of his starters in that game.

Smith, the seventh overall pick in the 2011 draft,  made 14 sacks as a rookie last season.
