Former Jets and Giants WR Plaxico Burress will work out for the Patriots on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Burress returned to football last season for the first time since being arrested on a gun charge in 2008 and spending 22 months in prison. With the Jets, he played in every game with 13 starts and had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns.
At receiver, the Patriots have already acquired Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney and Donté Stallworth this offseason.
The way we see it
This appears to be the Patriots and Bill Belichick doing their due diligence. Wide receiver is already a loaded position for them, and TE Aaron Hernandez plays like a receiver in certain formations. Burress was very effective in the red zone last season for the Jets, but the Pats aren't lacking red-zone weapons.
