Despite the excellent news that CB Terrell Thomas’ ACL is not torn again and that he should be able to rehab his knee effectively and return at some point early in the season, the Giants know they have to have a Plan B at the position. The obvious choice is 2011 first-round CB Prince Amukamara, whose preseason debut this year mirrored his performance with the team since being drafted: some good but questions remain. Amukamara forced a fumble on Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts, but that was after Shorts had victimized him on a TD reception earlier in the game. Amukamara was out of sorts on that first series of the game, also getting turned around on a 29-yard catch by Mike Thomas on 3rd-and-7, but he gathered himself and performed better from there on out. Could Amukamara be challenged by third-round CB Jayron Hosley, who stood out as a corner, returner and blitzer (one sack) in the preseason opener? Not yet, we hear; Amukamara is still ahead at this point.
