Are the Rams in trouble at offensive tackle? “Both (OLT) Rodger Saffold and (ORT) Jason Smith have struggled to block (starting DEs) Robert Quinn and Chris Long in practices, particularly Smith,” one daily team observer said. “Saffold is still a bit rusty after being held out of spring drills while still recovering from his torn pectoral, and it is true that Quinn and Long have both looked really dynamic. But the OT play does look like a real concern.” While most close to the team believe Saffold can bounce back from a subpar 2011 campaign provided he stays healthy, it appears Smith, who agreed to a pay cut this offseason, could get a legitimate push for the starting ORT job from Barry Richardson, who started for two seasons in Kansas City before signing with the Rams. “The consensus was that Richardson didn’t play all that well in K.C., but he’s looked decent with the Rams,” the observer said.
