Lions DE Cliff Avril ended his holdout Sunday, signing his one-year, $10.6 million franchise tender and reporting to training camp.
Avril, who reportedly turned down a three-year, $30 million offer by the Lions before the July 16 deadline for franchise players to agree to a long-term deal, is not happy about being tagged and showed his displeasure by not reporting for the start of training camp on July 26.
He passed his physical Sunday morning and officially signed the one-year tender. He tweeted Sunday morning, “If you’re heart is filled with faith then you can’t fear. Back to work, let’s get it #win.”
The 26-year-old Purdue product, had a team-high 11 sacks and six forced fumbles in 2011. He has 30 career sacks and 14 forced fumbles since being a third-round pick of the Lions in 2008.
