It appears second-round draft pick Bobby Wagner is considerably ahead of schedule in his quest to become the first rookie to start at middle linebacker for the Seahawks since Lofa Tatupu in 2005. “They like everything about him,” one team insider said of Wagner, a starter each of his four seasons at Utah State while playing all three LB positions. “There’s no buyer’s remorse whatsoever. He’s real fast, very athletic. And he’s gotten comfortable calling plays in the huddle a lot quicker than expected.” But as promising as he has looked, we’re told the team is not quite ready to officially name Wagner the undisputed starting middle ’backer over free-agent addition Barrett Ruud, a proven performer when healthy. After spending most of this offseason recovering from lingering knee, shoulder and groin injuries, we hear Ruud is slowly but surely starting to make his presence felt on the practice field.
