And then there were 10. That's the number of Colts cornerbacks who are vying to start opposite Jerraud Powers after Kevin Thomas, who saw first-team reps during the offseason, was shipped to Philadelphia on Thursday in exchange for LBs Moise Fokou and Brandon Lloyd.

Powers has been a bright spot in camp, showing no ill effects of the season-ending elbow injury he sustained last December. He has made a number of big plays, included a batted pass in the endzone that prompted new head coach Chuck Pagano to “nearly jump out of his tennis shoes,” according to a source. What’s more, Powers and FS Antoine Bethea have assumed strong leadership roles in a young defensive backfield.

Of the players competing to start with Powers, we hear Justin King, who had 19 starts in three seasons with the Rams, has made a strong impression. So have Chris Rucker, Cassius Vaughn and Buddy Jackson. But as we’ve stated throughout the offseason, the Colts could continue to look for an upgrade not currently on the roster.
