Five men attacked Wisconsin RB Montee Ball, a top Heisman Trophy candidate, near the school's campus early Wednesday morning.

According to the police report, the men knocked Ball to the ground, kicked him and ran off. The attack was unprovoked, and Ball was treated and released from the hospital with head injuries.

The Badgers begin practice on Monday and open their regular season on Sept. 1. Head coach Bret Bielema expects Ball to make a full recovery.

Ball decided to return to Wisconsin for his senior season after rushing for 1,923 yards last season and tying Barry Sanders’ NCAA record with 39 touchdowns.
