The Ravens could have a fluid situation at left tackle. Bryant McKinnie skipped the beginning of camp but reportedly was slated to return to the team on July 30. Head coach John Harbaugh has said that McKinnie is an option at left tackle only, not right tackle, so it’s Joe Flacco’s blind side or bust for him. With McKinnie missing from camp early, the Ravens moved Michael Oher from right to left tackle, and he has to be considered a viable option to start on the left side. His lone full season at left tackle (2010) was a little disappointing (eight false-start penalties, seven sacks allowed), but he’s only 26, and has the potential to further improve. A successful full season at left tackle surely would increase his value when it comes time to negotiate a second NFL contact; he has two years left on his rookie deal. In the short term, there’s no doubting his value to the Ravens, no matter which side he plays.
