Lions OLT Jeff Backus injured his thumb and did not return to Saturday's practice.

Head coach Jim Schwartz said Backus sustained the injury in one-on-one drills and got X-rays.

“It wasn’t real determinate right away, but there are some findings on there so we’ll look at it later this afternoon and see what comes of it. If it’s something long-term, we’ll let you know,” Schwartz said, according to the team’s website.

Backus has started 176 consecutive games in his 11-year NFL career. He underwent surgery on his left bicep in the offseason.

Corey Hilliard, Jason Fox and rookie Riley Reiff rotated in his spot with the first team during practice.
