Is SS Adrian Wilson’s new contract agreement simply too good to be true? “He’s certainly taking a hefty paycut,” one team insider said of the $10 million in salary Wilson was willing to sacrifice over the next two seasons in the new four-year deal he agreed to July 24. “Some guys give a lot of lip service when it comes to something like that, but he put his money where his mouth is. The timing sure was interesting. I don’t know if the team is trying to cut payroll or what.” (The Cardinals were roughly $5 million under the cap before Wilson’s new deal added another $4 million in cap space). With nobody on the roster anywhere close to being ready to replace Wilson, who turns 33 in October, it would appear the Cardinals can ill afford to lose him. “He looks great,” the insider said. “At the end of last season, he was playing better than ever, and he’s much happier off the field now after getting back together with his wife.”
