The Redskins quietly were optimistic that ORT Jammal Brown performing yoga and Pilates this spring could help his ailing hip, but he suffered another setback when running sprints July 25 and was subsequently placed on the physically unable to perform list. His future is unknown, and though it’s possible he soon could return to practice, it’s becoming obvious that the Redskins must find a viable Plan B. They will try Tyler Polumbus, Maurice Hurt and Willie Smith in Brown’s place, but Brown clearly is more talented than any of them when healthy. For now, rookie Tom Compton will work as a reserve on the other side, although he also could be tried. Considering that other spots along the line are in question, this development has been a disappointment. Brown is 31, and though he likely will play this season, it’s just not clear how much he can offer when protection for a rookie quarterback is at a premium.
