The Patriots released veteran RB Joseph Addai, the team announced Wednesday.
The Pats also confirmed the reported signings of TE Visanthe Shiancoe and DL Tim Bulman.
Addai, who spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Colts, joined the Patriots in May. He played in 12 games last season with 11 starts and had 118 carries for 433 yards and one touchdown. Addai began his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
The way we see it
The move is a bit surprising in the sense that it came this early, but Addai was certainly on the roster bubble. Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead are essential locks to make the team, and the Patriots could keep a fullback — they added Spencer Larsen and Tony Fiammetta this offseason. Undrafted free-agent RB Brandon Bolden also has a better chance to make the team.
