The Falcons released MLB Lofa Tatupu on Wednesday, the club announced.

Tatupu, who suffered a pectoral injury last week, was released with an injury settlement, PFW Falcons correspondent D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on the newspaper's website Wednesday. Tatupu suffered the injury working out on his own on Thursday, according to the Journal-Constitution.

Tatupu, 29, last played in a regular-season game for Seattle in 2010. He was expected to vie for the Falcons' MLB job. Akeem Dent is now the favorite to start in the middle.

In other Falcons roster news, the club placed starting DT Corey Peters (foot) on the active non-football injury list and signed third-year WR Tim Toone and second-year DT Elisha Joseph. The club waived undrafted free-agent S Chad Faulcon.

Toone, whom the Lions made the final pick in the 2010 draft, was waived by the Broncos in April. Joseph had a pair of stints on the Steelers' practice squad last season.
