The Jets acquired former first-round OT Jeff Otah from the Panthers for an undisclosed draft pick, the teams announced Monday.

Otah played in only four games last season before landing on injured reserve with a knee injury. He missed the entire 2010 season and missed seven games during his first two seasons in Carolina.

Otah, if healthy, will compete with Wayne Hunter to start at right tackle for the Jets.

This is the second trade the Panthers made on Monday, as earlier in the day they acquired WR Louis Murphy from the Raiders.

The way we see it

Otah is the type of run blocker the Jets could use, but there is a huge “if” because he has yet to stay healthy during his NFL career. Despite all the praise and confidence from Jets coaches, Hunter is the weak link on the O-line. The idea of Hunter facing Bills DE Mario Williams twice a year did not instill much confidence in Jets fans that saw Hunter lead the team in penalties last season.
