The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reports that the Eagles have placed DT Mike Patterson on the non-football injury list.

Patterson, a seven-year veteran, was diagnosed with an arteriorvenous malformation (AVM) in his brain after suffering a seizure at training camp early last August. He was cleared to play in 2011 and started all 15 games in which he played, with 35 tackles, 2½ sacks and one forced fumble.

He underwent surgery in January, and, following six months of rehab, the Eagles believed he would be ready for training camp. However, Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters Sunday evening that Patterson is not fully recovered and will not participate in training camp.

“I think if you look at the history of the National Football League, not a lot of players have had craniotomies where they’ve had a piece of their skull taken off and put back on," Burkholder said. "It’s something that we thought he’d be ready since it’s been six months since the surgery, and he’s not. That’s just what happened with the healing. Everyone heals differently, and we anticipate he’ll heal up fully and be back playing. It’s just not today.”

According to McLane, the Eagles have no timetable set for Patterson's return.
