It would be a mistake to underestimate any of the three free-agent veteran defensive linemen signed by the Packers, particularly Anthony Hargrove, whose eight-game suspension for his alleged involvement in “Bountygate” has led some team observers to believe he could have a tough time making the final roster. For one thing, we hear there’s a chance that Hargrove, who was a surprisingly effective performer for the Seahawks last season, could file an injunction that could delay his suspension. After reportedly really impressing his new teammates with his boundless energy during OTAs and minicamp, Hargrove’s presence could serve a valuable dual purpose. As for Phillip Merling, the 32nd overall pick by Miami in the 2008 draft, and Daniel Muir, who started 24 games for the Colts in 2009-10, team sources tell us both players are expected to get legitimate opportunities to fill key reserve roles up front.
