Bears DT Nate Collins was suspended for the first game of the 2012 season and fined an additional game check for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse, according to multiple reports.

Collins, who can participate in the preseason games, will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Sept. 10.

Collins played in 12 games and recorded 10 tackles and one pass defended for Jacksonville in 2011. He signed with the Bears in May.
