Bengals' roster decisions could be challenging

As the Bengals trim their roster late this summer, they are likely going to have some interesting, and tough, decisions. The Bengals’ 10-player draft in April was praised as a strong effort by the organization, and the club is also high on its undrafted free agents, with LBs Emmanuel Lamur and Vontaze Burfict two to watch, the way we hear it. Moreover, the club added six veteran free agents, including OG Travelle Wharton and RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Considering the Bengals already had enough talent to make the playoffs in 2011, the new additions should make competition for roster spots particularly fierce this summer, with cornerback and wide receiver two positions of note in this regard. A useful player or two off the current roster could hit the waiver wire in September and land elsewhere. Another area to watch: the Bengals have shown a willingness to make trades as the summer wound down in each of the past two years. They acquired Reggie Nelson (in September 2010) and Taylor Mays (in August 2011) — who very well could be the starting safeties in Week One — in such deals.
