The Lions agreed to a new multi-year contract extension with head coach Jim Schwartz, according to the team’s website.

Length of the contract and financial terms are unknown.

Schwartz took over the Lions in 2009 following their 0-16 season. They went 2-14 in 2009, 6-10 in 2010 and ended their postseason drought last season after going 10-6.

Expectations are high again for the Lions heading into the 2012 season. Schwartz was entering the final year of his contract. Of the 11 head coaches hired in 2009, Schwartz and Rex Ryan are the only ones who still have their head-coaching jobs.
