The Steelers released QB Troy Smith, winner of the 2006 Heisman Trophy, on Monday, the team announced.

Smith signed with Pittsburgh in January after not playing in the NFL in 2011.

In 2010, Smith started six games for the 49ers, completing 50.3 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and four interceptions. From 2007-09, Smith played in 14 games for the Ravens, including two starts in his rookie season in ’07.
