Jets second-year DL Muhammad Wilkerson was treated for “minor injuries” after a car accident early Saturday morning, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Wilkerson, the Jets’ first-round pick in 2011, was involved in an accident on the Garden State Parkway. The car he was driving overturned after striking another vehicle, a police spokesman confirmed to Mortensen.
Wilkerson was charged with careless driving and failure to maintain his lane, but there was no indication that Wilkerson was driving under the influence. Police were notified of the accident at 4:29 a.m. on Saturday.
Jets medical staff examined Wilkerson on Monday, per the report, and said the injuries will not jeopardize any part of his 2012 season.
As a rookie, Wilkerson started all 16 games and had 49 tackles, including a team-high 13 tackles for loss.
