The late Tom Kowalski, who was a Lions beat reporter for over three decades, won the Professional Football Writers of America 2012 Dick McCann Award.

Kowalski covered the Lions for 32 years, and he was the star attraction at MLive.com. Kowalski co-hosted a daily sports talk radio show and wrote pieces for The Sporting News. He died suddenly at his home on Aug. 29, 2011 at the age of 51.

The McCann Award is given to a reporter who has made a long and distinguished contribution to pro football through coverage. The award will be presented to Kowalski posthumously during the Enshrinees' Gold Jacket Dinner during the 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinment Festival.
