The Titans agreed to a long-term contract with S Michael Griffin, who received the franchise tag in March.

The five-year deal is worth $35 million with $15 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The two-time Pro Bowler has played in every game in his five seasons with the Titans, including 73 starts. He has 44 passes defensed and 17 interceptions in his career.

Last season, Griffin had 75 tackles, seven passes defensed and two picks.

The Way We See It

The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Griffin has never exactly been the model of consistency throughout his career. At his best, Griffin is one of the top playmaking safeties in the NFL. But there have also been times, including last season, when he missed too many tackles and was too often beat over the top. We hear Griffin has worked hard this offseason to become a more vocal leader and accountable player, which likely played into the Titans rewarding him in the hopes he plays more consistently at the level of which he is capable.
