Charges of assault with a deadly weapon against Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib were dismissed Monday by Dallas (Tex.) County prosecutors, according to multiple reports.

The charges stemmed from an incident that took place on June 25, 2011. Police said Talib pistol-whipped and fired shots at the live-in boyfriend of his sister.

“The bottom line is that the complainant is sitting in jail as a repeat child molester and has prior cases of the same nature,” Talib’s attorney, Frank Perez, told the St. Petersburg Times.

Talib was facing a maximum sentence of 2-20 years, if convicted.

Last season, Talib started all 13 games he played and returned two interceptions for touchdowns. The fifth-year player has 17 career picks.
