The Chargers have announced that RB LaDainian Tomlinson will announce his retirement on Monday.
Tomlinson, who ranks fifth on the list of the league’s all-time rushers, will sign a contract with San Diego on Monday and then immediately retire. A press conference will be held at Chargers Park.
In nine seasons with the Chargers, Tomlinson started 141 games and rushed for a franchise-record 12,490 yards and 138 TDs. He also caught 530 passes for 3,995 yards and 15 scores.
Tomlinson, who turns 33 on June 23, signed as a free agent with the Jets prior to the 2010 season and rushed for 914 yards and six touchdowns on 219 carries. Last season, in one start with the Jets, Tomlinson carried the ball 75 times for 280 yards with one TD and caught 42 passes for 449 yards and two scores.
