Jaguars GM Gene Smith told reporters Monday that the club expects RB Maurice Jones-Drew to play out the last two years of his current deal.

“He has expressed that he would like to renegotiate and we have expressed, again, that we feel he has a contract with two years left and we expect him to fulfill those obligations,” Smith said, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.

Jones-Drew has not participated in OTAs, and the team’s mandatory minicamp begins Tuesday. If the 2011 rushing leader does not attend, he can be fined.

“That’s a decision that certainly is the head coach’s decision. And I would support that,” Smith said, per the Times-Union.

Jones-Drew rushed for a league-best 1,606 yards last season, his sixth in the NFL. He has rushed for more than 1,300 yards in each of the last three seasons.

Jones-Drew, 27, is slated to make $4.45 million in salary in 2012. His salary increases to $4.95 million in '13.
