Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey and GM Gene Smith held a press conference with WR Justin Blackmon following the first-rounder’s weekend arrest for aggravated DUI.

Blackmon, the fifth pick in April’s draft, was arrested on Sunday and charged with aggravated DUI. Authorities in Oklahoma said he blew a .24, which is three times the legal limit. Blackmon pleaded not guilty and his next hearing is July 24, three days before the start of Jaguars training camp.

“As an organization, we’re obviously very disappointed in this incident,” said Smith. He said that he told Blackmon that a mistake is an opportunity to learn.

Blackmon was arrested in 2010 for DUI when he was playing at Oklahoma State. He apologized for the “negative attention brought upon the Jaguars” and to Smith, Mularkey, the Khan family and the entire organization. He also apologized to “fans or people that looked up to me.”

“I just made a poor choice,” he said. “It was completely my fault. I just have to make better judgment.

“Words are words, and it’s my actions that are going to have to show.”
