The Panthers announced that they will prepare for their regular-season opener at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla.

Carolina opens the 2012 season on Sept. 9 against the Buccaneers in Tampa, an hour north of IMG. The Democratic National Convention will be taking place in Charlotte, with President Barack Obama giving a speech at Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 6.

"We researched places on the West Coast, Midwest and East Coast in anticipation of the 2012 schedule release," Panthers GM Marty Hurney said. "After the opener at Tampa Bay was announced, we scouted a few places in the Tampa area, and IMG made the most sense. The facility offers the privacy and infrastructure that we need to prepare for the season opener."

The Panthers requested to open the season with a road game. The convention is expected to draw upwards of 40,000 visitors.
