The Broncos acquired FB Chris Gronkowski from the Colts for CB Cassius Vaughn.
“We have a lot of depth in our secondary and this was an opportunity for us to add a quality fullback to our roster,” Broncos executive VP of football operations John Elway said.
Gronkowski’s brothers Rob (Patriots) and Dan (Browns) are also in the NFL, and Dan played in Denver in 2010.
In 14 games and seven starts with the Cowboys in 2010, Chris Gronkowski had five carries for 17 yards and seven receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. He played in seven games for the Colts last season.
Vaughn, who also can return kickoffs, played in 22 games with 22 tackles and one interception in his two seasons with the Broncos.
The way we see it
Vaughn has a bright future, but as the fifth corner on the Broncos roster, he was not expected to see the field much this season. By swapping him for Gronkowski, the team adds depth and toughness to their offense without losing too much.
Gronkowski is also familiar with Peyton Manning and the language of the offense the Broncos will be using in 2012.
