Owners approved moving the trade deadline to Week Eight and allowing one player on injured reserve to be added back to the active roster at a point in the regular season.

The rules, agreed upon at the owners meeting in Atlanta, will become official after the league’s management council discusses the proposals with the NFLPA to add it to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The trade deadline had originally been Week Six, but a two-week extension should lead to more trades and give teams more flexibility.

The trade deadline proposal allows one “marquee” player placed on I.R. to return to practice after the sixth game and to the lineup after the eighth game.
