Jets second-year NT Kenrick Ellis has reached a plea agreement on a felony assault charge.
The alleged victim’s attorney told Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger that his client “reluctantly agreed” to Ellis pleading guilty to a reduced charge, reportedly misdemeanor assault and battery.
Ellis was charged with malicious wounding for an incident that took place in April 2010, when he was a student at Hampton University. The trial was postponed twice. Ellis, a “permanent resident” of the United States, is not a U.S. citizen, but he is expected to avoid deportation.
The guilty plea comes with six months of active jail time, but Ellis will only have to serve 90 days in jail, according to Virginia law.
Per Vrentas’ report, the victim still plans to pursue a civil claim against Ellis.
