Browns second-year DT Phil Taylor tore his left pectoral, head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Friday.
The injury occurred Thursday when Taylor was lifting weights. He will undergo surgery next week. Shurmur told reporters that Taylor will miss a “significant amount of time.”
As a rookie, Taylor was very productive, recording 59 tackles and four sacks while starting all 16 games.
The way we see it
The middle of the defense is a strength for Cleveland, with DT Ahtyba Rubin and MLB D’Qwell Jackson, but this is a big loss, as Taylor made a nice impact for the Browns as a rookie. The team does have insurance after using a third-round pick on DT John Hughes and a fifth-rounder on DT Billy Winn.
