Browns DT Phil Taylor suffered an injured left pectoral on Thursday while lifting weights, the club announced.

It was not immediately determined whether Taylor had torn the muscle. He will be evaluated Monday "to determine a course of treatment," the club said. Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that Taylor was getting an MRI on the injury.

The 6-3, 335-pound Taylor had a productive rookie season in 2011, starting all 16 games in the middle for Cleveland. He notched 59 tackles and four sacks.

The way we see it

If Taylor were to miss any extended time, it would be a material loss for the Browns' defense. The Browns are strong up the middle with Taylor, DT Ahtyba Rubin and MLB D'Qwell Jackson.
