Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs has successfully undergone surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, the team said Tuesday.

"Terrell had a successful surgical procedure done on his Achilles tendon this afternoon by Dr. Bob Anderson," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement. "After some recovery time, ‘Sizzle’ will begin the process of rehabbing the area. We know he will work hard to get back on the field with his teammates as soon as the doctors and trainers allow. We're confident that he can make a full recovery."

The team gave no timetable for his return, although Suggs told a reporter for the Carroll County (Md.) Times that he would definitely be back by the beginning of November.

The Pro Football Weekly/Professional Football Writers of America Defensive Player of the Year last season suffered the injury while working out in Arizona during the draft.

Having lost OLB Jarret Johnson to the Chargers in free agency, the Ravens figure to have a pair of new starters at outside linebacker in September, with Paul Kruger likely replacing Johnson and second-round draft choice Courtney Upshaw possibly filling in for Suggs.
