The Redskins have released WR Jabar Gaffney; the team announced Tuesday.
Washington attempted to trade Gaffney over the weekend for a draft choice, but could not find another team willing to make a deal. His release takes $2.65 million off the team’s salary cap in 2012.
Gaffney played one season with the ‘Skins, registering 68 receptions for 947 yards and five touchdowns in 2011. The team signed WRs Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan in the offseason, and is expected to get Santana Moss and Leonard Hankerson back from injury.
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said last week a notable incident in which Gaffney used profane language on Twitter played no part in the team’s future with the receiver.
