The Eagles took a flier on Nick Foles in the third round, yet he projects as a project. He has some tools to work with, starting with size at 6-5, 243 pounds and mental toughness to play through pain. He does protect the ball and spreads it well. Despite looking uncoordinated, Foles produced big numbers in college, leaving Arizona as the school’s all-time leading passer.

He can get rattled, resulting in poor decisions, and some of his success came from playing in a gimmicky spread offense making simple reads. He’s also inconsistent and lacks accuracy, making his receivers work for the ball. That’s always dangerous, as quarterbacks who put their receivers into a defenseless position get them hurt. Foles is also a pocket passer who needs protection to be effective.

Obviously the team has Michael Vick as its starter, but it also has Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards. While there is no guarantee Kafka or Edwards will make the final cut, we can say with almost certainty that Foles has no fantasy value in 2012. He’s a developmental player for Andy Reid and his complicated West Coast offense.
