The nightmare scenario begins with a potential committee approach in San Francisco's backfield. It is bad news for fantasy owners, but Frank Gore showed he can't carry the load. His production dropped off in the second half of last season he can't handle a full 16 games of hits without slowing down.

LaMichael James is joining a backfield that already has Gore, Kendall Hunter, Anthony Dixon and Brandon Jacobs, and while he's only 5-8 and 190 pounds, James will eat into their numbers. James is instinctive and a natural runner. He feels the cutback and can be elusive with great lateral agility and short-area quickness.

Look for the team to dump Dixon and Jacobs is not guaranteed a roster spot, but Hunter's role could also be affected — he could see fewer touches. He and James are complementary backs to what Gore brings with his power. The move does make some sense, but fantasy owners should be on notice. The depth at running back weakens Gore’s overall value.
