Over a week after adding an athletic, pass-catching tight end in Les Brown, a former basketball player, the Dolphins drafted Missouri TE Michael Egnew, a seam stretcher who is the sixth tight end on Miami’s roster. Head coach Joe Philbin’s offense in Green Bay last year carried five tight ends on the active roster, so having depth at that position is crucial for his offense. “I’m excited about (Egnew). He’s a big, skilled player. We like to attack the middle of the field. He’s going to be a good player in the red zone,” Philbin told reporters. A converted receiver, Egnew’s not known for his blocking, but that doesn’t seem to faze the Dolphins’ brass, who got him for other reasons. “What you really see and you like about him is his run after the catch,” GM Jeff Ireland said. It should be noted about the deep position that starter Anthony Fasano will be a free agent in 2013, and the Dolphins now have extra insurance should this be his final season in Miami.
