Fantasy spin: Rams RB Isaiah Pead

Isaiah Pead will be a complementary back to Steven Jackson. He's a speed back, which means he can run around tacklers and excel in open space. He has the speed to take it all the way and his second-level peripheral vision helps make this happen.

Hands are what fantasy owners want from speed backs, as it can make them special. Saints RB Darren Sproles strikes no fear into anyone between the tackles but give him a swing or screen pass and he’s fantasy magic.

Like most speed backs the downside is usually their size and Pead is no different. At 5-9 7/8 and 193 pounds he needs to bulk up to handle the hits and to be a more effective runner and blocker. There are questions about his maturity but head coach Jeff Fisher can handle it. He has had to handle QB Vince Young, DT Albert Haynesworth and CB Pacman Jones — all had character or prima donna issues.

Look for him to fill the third-down/change-of-pace role and he is best suited as a handcuff to Jackson. Look toward him at the end of your draft but there’s not much upside right now.
